Darnell Farms is a must stop on your next Smoky mountain vacation with us at Smoky Mountain Country Club! This second generation, fully operational farm is located in a beautiful, mountain valley on US Highway 19 right outside Bryson City.  The Tuckasegee River borders the farm, comprised of over 100 acres of prime bottom land.

The farm offers fun for your family year round!  Along the river bordering the farm, there are grills, picnic tables, swings, and other kid-friendly play stations.

The large, open-air produce store is stocked with an incredible variety of fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, dried beans, snacks, and locally produced jellies, jams, and sauces.  There is a great selection of fresh meats and dairy products, also locally sourced.  The farm produces strawberries, blackberries, sweet corn, tomatoes, onions, and peppers.

The pick-your-own strawberry market runs from May to June.  You can also take home strawberry hanging baskets and watch them ripen right on the vine!

The farm hosts seasonal events for great family enjoyment.  The Strawberry Bluegrass Jam in May features some of the area’s finest pickers for a real, foot stompin’ good time.  As fall approaches things really gear up with the fall hayrides, and pick your own pumpkin in the pumpkin patch.  Come enjoy these annual traditions when you are visiting the Smoky Mountains in the fall.

The season at Darnell Farms winds down with the ever popular Fall Harvest Festival.  On the last Saturday in October vendors feature their artisan crafts.  Farmers offer demonstrations of traditional farming techniques and the air is filled with traditional music.

The farm celebrates its heritage year-round with educational tours focusing on the history of the land and its ties to the Cherokees.

Did I mention the Chuckwagon Food Truck… Oh my goodness…. imagine Appalachia meets Latin America!  Empanadas, tamales and so much more.  This fusion feast is at the farm Wednesdays thru Sundays.  We feasted on the Appalachian fried tamale meal.  This deep-fried deliciousness was stuffed with smoked pork butt & collards.  It paired perfectly with the tangy cilantro-lime slaw and the yellow-eyed beans.  The pickled okra was the perfect end to a great meal.

But the real star of Darnell Farms is a magical, frozen concoction that people drive from miles around to enjoy!  Dream Whip comes in various flavors such as blackberry, strawberry, pineapple, butterscotch and so many more.  So when you see the cars lined up around the market, you know why!
